Joyce Speaks Out!

Why are you passionate about your career choice?
Challenge!  I love the challenge of delving into a potentially unsolvable situation and teasing out the answer.  I love the problem solving, the puzzle, the investigation.  I love tackling a thorny problem and producing an understandable product.  I love proving that there is no conundrum that can’t be solved.

What makes Lautze & Lautze an exciting place to work?
Relationship!  Lautze is more than competency and producing a product.  We are about forming relationships with those that come looking for our help and expertise.  It’s about listening and delighting in people’s good fortune.  It’s about sympathizing with loss and helping with change.  And we form these relationships not only with our clients but with each other.  The most frequent sound you hear at Lautze is laughter.

Would you describe a “success story” related to client services?
I have a client who received a notice for a proposed increase in tax because he was claiming status as a statutory employee and the IRS was challenging this position.  We responded to the IRS with evidence and support for our position.  The IRS agreed with us and we were able to save this client several thousand dollars in proposed additional taxes.

What are you up to when not at the firm helping clients?
When I’m not serving the needs of my clients, you can find me singing and directing music in my church on the Peninsula, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with friends.
