Employees Share their Passion for Giving Back
Lautze & Lautze employees are known for striking out on their own to help build stronger, more cohesive communities. Here are a few of their stories:
Director Craig E. Malgren has spent considerable time volunteering with the Kiwanis Club of Oakland. Some of his recent projects include:
- Interior and exterior house painting for seniors in Oakland as part of the Rebuilding Oakland (formerly Christmas in April) non-profit organization
- Clean-up projects at various Oakland elementary schools
- Maintenance projects at Camp Arroyo in Livermore (a special camp for terminally ill and other seriously ill children) sponsored by The Taylor Foundation
- Continued awards of college scholarships to qualified graduates of Oakland public high schools—over 40 years, the Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships
Through the California Society of CPAs, Director Craig E. Malgren hasn’t been shy about getting in front of the camera to talk accounting. He has volunteered several times during tax season for a call-in tax program on KRON-TV.
“Taking calls from viewers can be tricky because you never know what they’re going to ask,” says Craig. “You also have a limited amount of time to provide an answer. But it’s a lot of fun and a great service to the community.”
KPIX-TV has also turned to Craig for on-camera interviews about new tax laws and their possible effects. In addition, his expertise has been tapped over the years to answer newspaper readers’ tax questions as part of a panel of tax professionals for the Alameda Newspaper Group, which represents numerous East Bay newspapers.
